Job Summary

Provide, coordinate, and document direct and indirect patient-centered care in a fast-paced PICU environment using the nursing process. Perform technical patient care activities, manage multiple assignments, and supervise or delegate tasks to licensed and unlicensed staff. Lead, teach, and collaborate within a skills mix while maintaining professionalism under pressure. Participate in on-call rotation based on department needs and may serve as a Shift Coordinator after orientation. Requires a BSN, one year of experience, and an active California RN license with BLS certification.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • Minimum of one year experience
  • Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Basic knowledge of healthcare regulations and accreditation
  • Ability to speak, read and write legibly in English
  • Ability to use computer, printer and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, electronic medical record, electronic event reporting program
  • Ability to troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment
  • Ability to perform technical patient care activities
  • Ability to relate and communicate positively, effectively and professionally with others
  • Ability to be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies
  • Ability to lead, supervise, teach and collaborate
  • Ability to accept direction
  • Ability to think critically
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to perform basic math functions
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments effectively

  • Ability to see adequately to read computer screens, medical records and written documents necessary for position
  • May be required to participate in on-call rotation based on department business needs
  • May be requested to serve in Shift Coordinator role upon completion of Shift Coordinator orientation

Desired Qualifications

  • Associate Degree or Diploma Degree in Nursing (if hired prior to April 1, 2020)
  • Ability to speak, read and write legibly in Spanish
  • Other certifications as listed in the department-specific Plan for Providing Care
