Job Summary

Clinical/Medical Laboratory Scientist in a Blood Bank role (PRN) at Ochsner Health. Responsible for receiving and preparing specimens, performing routine and specialized laboratory testing, data entry, quality control, calibration and maintenance of analytical equipment, and performing phlebotomy as appropriate. Maintains confidentiality of patient information, adheres to regulatory standards and proficiency testing requirements, and supports performance improvement initiatives. Requires a Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or related science and a Generalist license or trainee/assistant license with the ability to obtain full licensure within 90 days; ASCP/AMT/AAB Generalist certification within 90 days where applicable. Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills to support patient diagnosis and treatment in a laboratory setting.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology, medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, or chemical/physical/biological science
  • Current Clinical Lab Scientist Generalist license in the state of practice (if applicable) OR Generalist Trainee permit or Lab Assistant license and must obtain Clinical Lab Scientist Generalist license within 90 days of hire
  • ASCP, AMT or AAB generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist within 90 days of hire; ASCP/ AAB certification requirements may vary by facility
  • Proficiency with Windows-based applications; strong data entry and documentation skills
  • Ability to perform routine and/or specialized laboratory testing, quality control, instrument maintenance; interpret results; document actions
  • Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards; compliance with safety and privacy policies
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work in a patient care environment
  • Ability to adapt to evolving duties and responsibilities; willingness to perform phlebotomy as appropriate
  • Comply with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies
  • Must be able to perform duties in a healthcare setting with potential exposure to blood and body fluids
