Job Summary
Receive and prepare specimens according to standard protocols, perform laboratory tests and calculations for disease diagnosis, and calibrate, maintain, and monitor analytical equipment. Execute quality control procedures, evaluate test performance, and perform phlebotomy as appropriate while maintaining patient confidentiality. Independently interpret routine and specialized laboratory testing, analyze quality control data, and troubleshoot instruments to ensure accuracy and precision. Adhere to regulatory compliance guidelines, accreditation standards, and safety protocols, including proficiency testing and inventory management. Adapt communication styles for patient interactions and report results within established time frames.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in medical technology, medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical or biological science
- Current license in the state of practice (if applicable)
- ASCP, AMT or AAB certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist
- Any incumbents certified by ASCP on or after January 1, 2004, must successfully complete the requirements of the ASCP's Certification Maintenance Program
- Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information
- Proficiency with Windows-style applications and keyboard
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process
- Good analytical and problem solving skills
- Good judgement in performing duties and conflict resolution
- Good interpersonal skills
- Must be able to work a flexible work schedule (e.g. 24/7, weekend, holiday, on call availability)
- Must be able to stoop, bend, reach and grab with arms and hands, manual dexterity
- Must be able to stand and sit for prolonged periods of time
- Must be able to travel throughout and between facilities
