Job Summary
Perform routine microbiological and immunological testing on specimens, checking for accuracy and appropriate containers before subculturing to specific media. Identify microbes via culture or antibody means, interpret and record results, and differentiate normal from abnormal findings. Report critical values to the nursing unit immediately and document all communications. Execute quality control measures, instrument function checks, and preventive maintenance while maintaining up-to-date pending logs. Investigate inconsistent results or invalid parameters by performing additional testing as necessary to assure accuracy. Apply sound technical judgment to evaluate problems and develop reasonable alternatives within established guidelines.
Required Qualifications
- NYSDOH Licensed as a Certified Clinical Laboratory Technologist
- Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology from a program registered by the NYS Department of Education
- Bachelor's Degree in the major of biology, chemistry or physical sciences from an accredited college or university
- education requirement grandfathered by the NYSOP
- One year experience in a clinical laboratory
- completion of an internship at a qualified institution
- Effective Interpersonal Communication skills
