Job Summary
Determine specimen acceptability and perform routine and complex technical procedures according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures. Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot instrumentation while making technical decisions regarding testing and problem-solving. Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls, then report accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care. Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures, identify and replenish bench supplies, and assist with specimen processing. Maintain a safe work environment by wearing appropriate personal protective equipment. This PRN role covers 1st and 3rd shifts on weekdays or weekends as needed in a high-volume, production-based environment at Ascension Saint Thomas Highlands in Sparta, Tennessee.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology
- Availability to cover 1st and 3rd shifts on weekdays or weekends when needed
- Ability to pass a standardized color blindness test
- Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
Desired Qualifications
- 1 year or more of clinical laboratory testing experience
- 1 year or more of experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) generalist
- ASCP or AMT certification
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Proficient with computers
- High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
