Job Summary
Perform specimen processing tasks (receiving, sorting, prioritizing specimens; matching against requisitions; centrifuging and aliquoting; processing timed urine collections) and venipuncture/capillary blood collection for inpatients and outpatients. Provide responsive customer service to patients and hospital staff; orient/train new employees; participate in performance improvement activities to help meet accreditation standards (JCAHO, CLIA, CAP). Utilize LIS and document/resolve specimen/order problems, and assist with arranging proper urine collection instructions. Role may include additional duties in a busy laboratory setting and may involve day, evening, or night shifts.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduation or equivalent AND one (1) year of chemical, clinical, or public health laboratory experience OR Completion of a laboratory assistant course approved by the American Society for Clinical Pathology OR Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
