Job Summary
Clinical Laboratory Technical Specialist serves as the senior technical resource in Microbiology and Molecular Diagnostics, overseeing moderate- and high-complexity testing, validating new assays, ensuring quality and regulatory compliance, and providing technical leadership, SOP development, training, and troubleshooting across laboratory operations; responsibilities include performing and supervising diverse testing, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, molecular diagnostics (nucleic acid extraction, qPCR), instrument calibration and maintenance, QA/QC, proficiency testing, staff training, and cross-functional collaboration with pathologists, IT, vendors, and leadership to optimize workflow and turnaround time. The role requires independent judgment, strong regulatory knowledge (CAP, CLIA, Joint Commission), and the ability to manage complex projects, with travel to affiliated offices/locations as needed; weekend/holiday coverage may be required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, LIS/LIS integrations, and documentation of compliance and performance metrics is expected.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, or related scientific field required
- ASCP certification (MLS/MT, M(ASCP), MB(ASCP), or specialty certification) required
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in a high-complexity clinical laboratory, preferably in Microbiology and/or Molecular Diagnostics
