Clinical Laboratory Scientist - New Grad - All Locations - NLA

Job Summary

Receive and prepare specimens per standard protocols, perform laboratory tests and calculations for disease diagnosis and treatment, and execute quality control procedures to evaluate test performance. Calibrate, maintain, and monitor analytical equipment while conducting phlebotomy as appropriate. Independently develop and interpret routine and specialized laboratory testing within established time frames, analyzing and recording quality control and instrument maintenance data to ensure accuracy and precision. Escalate out-of-control results with documented corrective actions, adhering to regulatory compliance, accreditation standards, and safety guidelines. Manage supply and reagent inventory to support cost reduction initiatives while maintaining patient confidentiality. Work flexible schedules including 24/7 coverage, weekends, holidays, and on-call availability across multiple facilities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in medical technology, medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical or biological science
  • Current license in the state of practice (if applicable)
  • ASCP, AMT or AAB generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist OR ASCP categorical or AAB individual discipline certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist ONLY if working in a designated Academic Medical Center facility
  • Any incumbents certified by ASCP on or after January 1, 2004, must successfully complete the requirements of the ASCP's Certification Maintenance Program
  • Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information
  • Proficiency with Windows-style applications and keyboard
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills
  • Good judgement in performing duties and conflict resolution
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to work a flexible work schedule (e.g. 24/7, weekend, holiday, on call availability)
  • Must be able to stoop, bend, reach and grab with arms and hands, manual dexterity
  • Must be able to stand and sit for prolonged periods of time
  • Must be able to travel throughout and between facilities
