Job Summary
Perform a variety of manual, semi-automated, and automated biochemical, hematological, microbiological, and blood banking analyses on patient specimens, recognizing abnormal and critical results to ensure accuracy and timeliness. Communicate results effectively while maintaining high productivity and adhering to defined turnaround time guidelines. Participate in the department's quality assurance program, continuing education sessions, and inventory monitoring. Assist in training personnel, perform required calibration and maintenance, and obtain specimens as necessary. Functions independently by organizing work and prioritizing tasks while adhering to safety and infection control protocols. Covers the lab in emergencies and difficult staffing situations as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Related field
- Specialized/technical training for California Clinical Laboratory Scientist or California Specialty (Limited) License
- 1 year Prior experience and/or CLS training to include: specialized and complex analysis, quality control, calibration, QC evaluation, inventory control, preventative maintenance, and quality improvement related to Clinical Laboratory field
- Organization/time management skills
- Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Well-developed planning, marketing, organizational development, and business skills
- The ability to work with physicians, staff and professionals in multiple settings and locations and to promote diversity in the workplace
- Sensitivity for and understanding of academic disciplines and issues
- Knowledge of GMP (good manufacturing practice in accordance with FDA, AABB, and State requirements)
- Knowledge of basic computer skills including Microsoft Office applications
- Clinical Laboratory Scientist - CLS OR Limited license from the State of California
- Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date
