Clinical Lab Trainer, Histology

Job Summary

Provide and document new hire training in the histology department while delivering ongoing in-person and virtual sessions for retraining, promotions, and new process improvements. Create training materials, perform direct observations, and coordinate learner completions to ensure competencies are met and recorded accurately. Assist in developing learning exams, maintain training records per regulatory guidelines, and evaluate learner progress. Schedule sessions, work nights or weekends as needed, and perform duties onsite at the Phoenix laboratory location.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or Associate's Degree in a Chemical, Physical, Biological, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology from an accredited institution
  • 1+ years of experience providing instructor led in-person and/or virtual training, either in a laboratory or other setting
  • 2+ years of laboratory experience with a strong understanding of working in a laboratory or similar environment with professional working knowledge of HIPAA, GLP, GDP, and laboratory terminology and equipment, including at least one year of histology experience
  • Strong computer skills including Internet navigation, use of virtual meeting tools and platforms such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom, email usage, word processing, and data/records management
  • Demonstrated ability to perform Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in country where work will be performed on a full or part-time basis
  • Ability to work a designated schedule
  • Ability to work nights and/or weekends, as needed
  • Ability to work overtime, as needed
  • Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 75% of a typical working day
  • Ability to work on a computer and phone simultaneously
  • Ability to use a telephone through a headset
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds for approximately 20% of a typical working day
  • Ability to grasp with both hands; pinch with thumb and forefinger; turn with hand/arm; reach above shoulder height
  • Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements
  • Ability to use various types of laboratory equipment; including microscopes, microtomes, blades, strainers, and pipettes for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work 100% of the time onsite at assigned laboratory location

Desired Qualifications

  • 1+ year experience in a mentorship role or directly/indirectly leading others
  • Experience with a laboratory information management (LIM) or LIS software
  • Experience working in a molecular laboratory
  • Experience in Next Generation Sequencing
  • Possession of and ability to maintain ASCP Certification or state licensure that has been determined to be equivalent
