Job Summary
Ensure timely workflow by performing patient registration, test ordering, and specimen evaluation while maintaining accuracy and proper documentation. Operate laboratory equipment, troubleshoot issues, and manage blood product inventory, including preparation for transfusion and irradiation. Monitor supply expiration dates, maintain clean workspaces, and follow all safety protocols and standard operating procedures. Utilize HIS and LIS software for job-related functions and assist in training new team members. Complete mandatory continuing education and support laboratory departments under direct supervision.
Required Qualifications
- Proficiency in the use of HIS and LIS software applications
- Ability to perform patient registration and test ordering
- Ability to verify patient information
- Ability to ensure timely specimen handling
- Ability to resolve processing issues
- Ability to evaluate and prepare specimens for testing
- Ability to ensure proper labeling, distribution, storage, and processing of specimens
- Ability to perform duties assigned in loading of samples
- Ability to perform maintenance on laboratory equipment
- Ability to operate laboratory equipment according to procedures
- Ability to troubleshoot issues or contact support regarding equipment
- Ability to document temperatures
- Ability to maintain a clean, organized workspace
- Ability to monitor and manage supply inventory
- Ability to check expiration dates
- Ability to store received items
- Ability to keep storage areas clean and organized
- Ability to manage blood and blood product inventory
- Ability to prepare blood and blood products for transfusion
- Ability to perform irradiation of blood products
- Ability to assist with training of new team members or students
- Willingness to complete mandatory continuing education
- Willingness to follow PPE protocols
- Willingness to follow all approved standard operating policies and procedures
- Availability for full time evening shifts
- Location in or willingness to relocate to Morristown, NJ
