Job Summary

Perform phlebotomy collections, process specimens, and manage inventory levels while maintaining confidentiality and professional judgment. Conduct check-in, order entry, and reconciliation for clinical and research testing, including manual entry and insurance processing. Assist with provider procedures, perform waived to moderate sample testing, and ensure proper biohazard disposal and equipment maintenance. Manage AP/HP cases, slide distribution, and client material returns while participating in on-call rotations and holiday coverage. Document critical communications and resolve non-conformities through the Problem Desk portal. Maintain competency assessments for employees and students, oversee inventory par levels, and support department-specific functions across genetics, histology, and infectious disease areas.

Required Qualifications

  • H.S. diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license
  • Good driving record
  • Must be insurable by lab insurance carrier as required by location
  • Eligible to work in a health care facility as provided by the New Mexico Caregivers Criminal History Screening Act or other applicable law
  • Prove Immunity to Hepatitis B, or be immunized, or sign a waiver refusing Hepatitis immunization
  • Provide documentation of a PPD test conducted not more than 90 days prior to date of hire, or have a PPD test conducted through TriCore
  • Prove immunity or be eligible to receive rubella, rubeola and varicella immunization
  • Must be available for Saturday & Sunday 0900-1930 with weekends, holidays, and other shifts as needed
  • Must be able to work independently and with minimal supervision and/or oversight
  • Must be able to perform one or more identified modalities
  • Must be able to maintain supplies and inventory necessary to perform departmental functions
  • Must be able to exhibit basic problem solving skills to ensure exceptional customer and patient care service levels
  • Must be able to demonstrate effective telephone and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to actively demonstrate professional judgment when dealing with clients, patients and co-workers
  • Must be able to perform clerical functions as needed by the department, including documenting critical communication such as call-ins in the absence of a supervisor
  • Must be able to maintain levels of confidentiality associated with position and access to personal and confidential information
  • Must be able to participate in and maintain coverage levels for on call as needed/required to meet service levels
  • Must be able to participate in coverage for holidays, evenings, and weekends as needed or required
  • Must have Basic P.C. skills

Desired Qualifications

  • PBT (ASCP) or equivalent certification
  • Completion of a relevant Clinical Lab Assistant or comparable program
