Job Summary
Performs waived testing and specimen processing in a clinical laboratory setting, including load of samples onto automation systems, verification of patient identification, preparation and aliquoting of specimens, and documentation of results. Collaborates with lab staff to interpret test results, investigate unusual findings, and participate in quality management activities. Requires foundational knowledge of clinical tests and methodologies, ability to operate lab equipment, strong computer skills, and adherence to safety, infection control, and HIPAA policies. The role supports preparation, testing, and reporting across pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases, with potential Blood Bank responsibilities as applicable, in a per diem/contract capacity at The Miriam Hospital in Providence, RI.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a laboratory science field (e.g., chemical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology)
- Collegiate-level science experience, preferably in a laboratory setting
- Ability to operate laboratory equipment and follow technical procedures accurately
- Strong computer skills, including navigating systems for multiple laboratories
- Physical and visual ability to perform and interpret tests; ability to stand for extended periods
- Compliance with HIPAA policies and safety guidelines
- Independence within established policies and procedures; ability to escalate complex issues to Specialists/Managers as appropriate
