Job Summary
Conduct clinical interpretations of karyotyping and FISH cases while providing consultation to medical community and TriCore clients. Support the Cytogenetics Medical Director in assuring compliance with safety, CAP, and CLIA regulations. Develop relationships with Genetic Counselors to improve medical outcomes and participate in abnormal case reviews as requested. Sign out clinical cases in concert with Medical Directors and attend management and committee meetings. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of laboratory medicine through self-study and complete a minimum of nine continuing education programs annually.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in relevant field
- Three (3) years progressive experience in a clinical laboratory
- ACMG Board Certified as a Clinical Cytogeneticist
- Attend management and committee meetings, as requested
- Effective time management skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and to work in a high productivity/high stress environment
- Ability to deal with difficult and sensitive situations
- Problem solving skills/reasoning ability. Ability to make difficult or complex decisions without established guidelines
- Follow company safety and personnel policies
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and to develop and maintain a climate of open communication and teamwork within the department
- Strong communication/interpersonal skills: with both internal and external customers
- Ability to listen effectively to staff concerns, ideas and questions and to deal effectively with conflict situations
- Ability to provide effective feedback to department staff regarding relevant information, changes
- Actively solicits feedback from staff as appropriate
- Proficient PC skills
- Must maintain an up to date knowledge of laboratory medicine through self-study and continuing education
- Attend a minimum of nine (9) continuing education programs per anniversary year with a minimum of one (1) outside the organization
Desired Qualifications
- A record of achievement and leadership in clinical cytogenetics, FISH and array CGH
- A record of scholarly achievement related to medicine and genetics
- A record of experience with constitutional and oncology interpretation and consultation
