Job Summary
Conduct clinic services including pulse oximetry, vision testing, and diabetic retinopathy screening while preparing exam rooms and administering medications as directed. Assist the primary assistant and provider with patient examinations, minor procedures, and treatments, ensuring accurate vital sign recording and medical record documentation. Manage patient forms, place follow-up calls to relay test results, and provide After Visit Summaries with instructions for follow-up appointments. Respond to telephone messages, gather information, and transfer inquiries to the medical provider while maintaining quality control standards and adhering to safety principles. Fill in as primary assistant or medical chaperone as needed and attend practice huddles to function effectively within the care team.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with possession of a current, unencumbered Oregon State Licensed Practical Nurse License
- Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with a nationally recognized certification such as AAMA, NCCT, or AMT
- Current CPR certification
- Knowledge of medical practice and care to assist in providing patient care
- Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment
- Skill in assisting in a variety of treatments and medications as directed
- Skill in taking vital signs
- Skill in medical record documentation and recording test results
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public
- Ability to maintain quality control standards
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
- Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures
- Ability to communicate clearly
- Ability to read, understand, and respond to detailed oral and written instructions
- Ability to ask clarifying questions as necessary
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing assignments and work pace
- Ability to recognize problems and share ideas for solutions
- Good judgment and decision making skills
- Ability to utilize computer programs expected for patient care
- Ability to type at least 30 wpm
