Job Summary
Provide direct patient care and daily living support, including assistance with activities of daily living, meal set-up, skin care, and safe patient transport under the direction of a registered nurse. Support patient monitoring and data collection by obtaining vital signs, performing bladder scans, collecting specimens, and promptly reporting changes in status. Prepare and maintain care equipment, conduct hourly rounding, and respond to call lights while adhering to infection prevention and safe patient handling guidelines. Accurately document care in the electronic medical record and collaborate effectively with the interdisciplinary team to meet patient needs. Work 36 hours per week with rotating weekends from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Boston. Requires 2 years of experience as a CNA, PCT, or similar role and certification as a nursing assistant upon hire.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 2 years of CA, CNA, PCT, MA, EMT or equivalent experience
- Certification as a nursing assistant required upon hire, unless incumbent is a nursing student who has completed her/his fundamentals of nursing with a clinical component (clinical rotation or simulation lab)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification by the American Heart Association (AHA) or the Red Cross required upon hire
- Knowledge of English language sufficient to read, speak and write accurately
- Knowledge of simple math
- Ability to lift and transport patients using the appropriate physical technique in a safe manner for the patient and self according to the safe patient handling guidelines
- Proficiency in basic computer skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, visitors, and personnel
- Must be available for rotating weekends
- May require rotating shifts or extended hours based on operational and patient care needs
- Exposure to hazardous drugs and biohazards; adherence to personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling policies required
- Walking, standing, and lifting up to 35 lbs; follows Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) safe patient handling and ergonomics practices
