Job Summary
Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor and Director of the Medical Lab Sciences Program at Texas A&M International University in Laredo, TX. Full-time, non-tenure-track, 12-month appointment. Primary duties include providing leadership for the BSMLS program, overseeing implementation, assessment and continuous improvement, supporting accreditation activities, curriculum development and assessment of student learning outcomes, teaching undergraduate Medical Laboratory Science courses, mentoring and supporting students from diverse backgrounds, recruitment and evaluation of program faculty, developing clinical partnerships and coordinating student clinical education experiences, and participating in service activities across department and university. Requires a master’s degree in a related field, MLS/MT certification, at least five years of clinical laboratory experience, and at least three years of higher education teaching or program administration experience; strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Doctoral degrees (PhD/EdD/DCLS/DHSc or related) are encouraged; relocation is supported. On-campus, face-to-face duties are emphasized. The position aims to advance the BSMLS program and workforce development across the region.
Required Qualifications
- Hold an earned master’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biological Sciences, Health Sciences, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution
- Current national certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist (MLS/MT) through ASCP Board of Certification or equivalent certification
- Minimum of five years of professional clinical laboratory experience across multiple laboratory disciplines
- Minimum of three years of higher education teaching, laboratory education, clinical instruction, or academic program administration experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum development, assessment practices, accreditation processes, and program administration
- Strong organizational, leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- PhD, EdD, DCLS, DHSc, or related discipline encouraged (preferred)
- Experience with accreditation activities, program development, curriculum planning, or academic leadership (preferred)
- Experience developing clinical partnerships and coordinating clinical education experiences (preferred)
- Experience working with multicultural, multilingual, and first-generation student populations (preferred)
