Job Summary

Provide clinical support on the patient care unit by performing emergency procedures, documenting patient data, and assisting staff with technical tasks. Monitor patient status, resolve conflicts, and identify opportunities for quality improvement while maintaining infection control standards. Manage equipment and supply needs, remove defective devices, and coordinate vendor re-evaluations. Remain flexible for unit coverage and attend mandatory in-services, including CPR certification within 90 days. Ensure compliance with safety protocols and patient rights while interacting with patients and the healthcare team.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Ability to read and write
  • Appreciable physical effort including lifting, pulling, pushing, and moving patients of various sizes
  • Ability to perform direct patient care tasks
  • Ability to be on feet much of the time
  • Completion of orientation, exam and competencies
  • Experience in a health care environment
  • Demonstrates competency in skills and procedures
  • Performs competency in emergency situations
  • Remains calm and stays available during code situations
  • Reports patient data to RN in a timely manner
  • Consistently incorporates hourly rounding into daily practice
  • Demonstrates awareness of Patients' Rights
  • Treats patients/families with respect, dignity, and kindness
  • Keeps all patient information confidential
  • Practices effective problem identification and problem solution skills
  • Demonstrates effective conflict resolution processes
  • Recognizes changes in patient status and advises appropriate personnel immediately

  • Dresses appropriately per job requirement
  • Wears name tag as required
  • Maintains understanding of Arnot Health regulations and new relevant information
  • Attends mandatory in-services of the Arnot Health, Division of Nursing, and unit
  • Attends all mandatory annual educational programs as required by the position
  • Has attended and shows documentation of 5 contact hours per year of education focused on role (excluding mandatory in-services)
  • Demonstrates knowledge of technical skills and procedures
  • Assumes responsibility to attend mandatory in-services of the Arnot Health, Division of Nursing, and unit
  • Assumes responsibility for own actions and documents actions taken
  • Demonstrates awareness and application of safety issues as identified within the institution, including the Medical Device Reporting Law
  • Removes broken/defective equipment from service
  • Assures the proper documentation is carried out
  • Follows up with the appropriate department to be sure it repaired/replaced
  • Keeps Unit Director informed of all supply and equipment issues including the need to reorder or re-evaluate vendors due to inadequate performance
  • Follows policies and procedures related to infection control
  • Performs procedures using appropriate personal protective equipment and technique
  • Participates in QI activities
  • Demonstrates QI principles in daily work
  • Demonstrates appropriate responsible decision making
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement in communication, practice setting and working relationships
  • Implements methods for improvement
  • Demonstrates effective communication methods and skills
  • Uses lines of authority appropriately
  • Develops effective working relationships with all members of the health care team
  • Remains flexible in staffing to provide unit coverage and meet unit needs
  • Interacts with customers/patients in a friendly and caring way
