Job Summary
Oversee the day-to-day operation of the city’s climbing wall facility, ensuring the safety of participants, staff, and equipment. Responsibilities include supervising climbers, enforcing safety protocols, assisting with training and scheduling staff, inspecting gear, and facilitating a positive and inclusive environment for climbers of all abilities. The role requires knowledge of indoor rock climbing, belaying, safety equipment, and program support such as Intro to Climbing classes, themed events, and rentals. A valid driver’s license is required; CPR/AED/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within 3 months) is required. Preferred candidates may hold or pursue a Climbing Wall Instructor (CWI) certification and prior supervisory experience. To succeed, candidates should possess strong collaboration, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills, and be able to work with diverse groups in a dynamic municipal recreation setting.
Required Qualifications
- CPR, AED, and First Aid certification or ability to obtain certification within 3 months of hire
- A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
- Solid knowledge of indoor rock climbing including climbing technique, belaying technique, routes and rating systems, rock climbing safety equipment
- Ability to maintain safety protocols and enforce climbing wall policies
- Experience or ability to supervise and train staff; willingness to coordinate programs and events
- Knowledge of safety equipment inspection and basic facility maintenance
