Job Summary
Perform venipuncture collections and process specimens including labeling, centrifuging, and packaging according to departmental protocols. Enter physician orders into multiple systems, verify test results, and manage supply inventory while maintaining accurate refrigerator temperature and QC/QA records. Communicate with patients and physicians regarding specimen issues and adhere to biohazard waste procedures to ensure a safe work environment. Work 21 hours per week across Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays with a preference for OBGYN experience.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Phlebotomy certification through a nationally recognized organization or training from a phlebotomy school or medical institution or one or more years of phlebotomy experience in a healthcare setting or CMA certification
- Must be able to work Wednesday 10am - 6pm; Thursday 8am - 4pm; Friday 9am - 3pm
- Must demonstrate excellent customer service and communication skills
- Must have the ability to function as part of a highly effective team
- Must adhere to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program
- Must comply with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards
- Must demonstrate the ability to perform venipuncture collection and specimen processing
- Must be able to perform phlebotomy and other lab specimen collections per age related standards and in accordance with departmental policies, protocols and procedures
- Must demonstrate the AIDET model and optimize patient safety to reduce the likelihood of medical/health care errors
- Must receive and review physician orders; ensure that all necessary information is included for appropriate lab services
- Must enter accurate orders for lab tests in accordance with department policies, protocols and procedures
- Must process specimens in a timely manner to ensure stability and integrity of samples including: labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, freezing and packaging specimens for transport in accordance with established protocols and policies
- Must review/record refrigerator temperature(s) and QC/QA records
- Must understand the operation and maintenance of equipment pertinent to the job
- Must follow up with all outstanding orders on manifest log
- Must communicate and notify Laboratory and/or Physician of problems with specimen procurement for optimal care
- Must maintain a safe work environment, hold self-accountable for safe work practices
- Must adhere to biohazard waste procedures and ensure proper storage and timely pickup of biohazardous waste
- Must perform lab-related clerical duties include but not limited to order entry, verification of test result receipt, patient information retrieval as well as utilization of email, medical record systems, handheld and desktop devices, ordering and maintaining supply inventory, filing and sanitizing equipment as necessary
- Must use department's resources efficiently
- Must participate in efforts to reduce costs and streamline work processes
- Must adhere to continuing education expectations
- Must complete and sign-off on competency assessments
- Must demonstrate the value of teamwork on a consistent basis
- Must interact with and assist others in a professional manner
- Must apply critical thinking, sound decision making and judgment to investigate and resolve challenging situations

- Must complete a background check authorization and disclosure form
Desired Qualifications
- Previous OBGYN experience
- Experience performing phlebotomy on a broad range of patient's types
- Experience with processing lab specimens, transferring specimens, and handling a centrifuge
- Familiar with medical EMR systems
- Knowledge of medical terminology
