Job Summary
Clerk Typist position with NYS HELPS District Office involving support for CPSE/CSE processes, attending meetings to take minutes and manage invitations/consents, coordinating and filing special education records and Medicaid/STAC paperwork, handling data entry, responding to program inquiries, and maintaining program data with confidentiality. Requires strong communication, customer service, and computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook); must be detail-oriented, organized, able to work in a fast-paced school-district office, and able to interact professionally with staff, families, and the public.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma including or supplemented by a course in typing
- Special Requirements: Working knowledge of office terminology procedures, and equipment; working knowledge of business arithmetic and English; ability to type from clear copy or rough draft at a reasonable rate of speed; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to write legibly; clerical aptitude; mental alertness; neatness, tact and courtesy; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position
- Ability to interact in a professional manner with staff and business people; Must have excellent phone etiquette skills; Must have excellent organizational skills; Must have excellent interpersonal skills; Excellent computer skills, Word, Excel and Outlook; Detail oriented with proven experience in reviewing written info for grammatical and format errors; Ability to work independently as necessary; Experience in assisting with the completion of comprehensive reports that are used for internal and external use; Must be able to maintain confidentiality; Must be punctual, hardworking, dependable, flexible, patient, and friendly; Excellent public relations skills, positive attitude; Excellent computer skills, Word, Excel and Publisher; A team player/flexible - extremely organized, sense of humor, able to accept constructive criticism; Able to perform calmly in a busy office setting; Strong work ethic; Ability to work with and enjoys working with High school students

- Office clerical experience, including typing, may be substituted for the high school requirement on a year for year basis
- Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements
- Past experience in a school district setting preferred
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
