Job Summary

Manage centralized scheduling for radiology patients and providers, including pre-admitting appointments and calling physicians for orders. Obtain lab information and provide written orders for patients needing lab work, while assisting technologists with clerical duties. Explain radiology exams to patients, arrange for supply pickups, and maintain the daily radiology schedule. Handle film control by requesting, pushing, and merging images, and make CDs for telerading. Perform reception duties such as answering phones and paging overhead, and keep the office stocked with supplies. Track and manually send reports, merge patient accounts in PACS to Cerner, and oversee the CT lung cancer screening program by reviewing criteria, contacting providers for corrections, and uploading data. Manage mammography follow-ups by requesting prior imaging, transferring images to workstations, and ensuring chart notes are printed and summarized for technologists.

Required Qualifications

  • High school graduate or GED
  • Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean
  • Completes annual organization-required and/or job-required educational requirements
  • Maintains regulatory requirements
  • Wears identification while on duty
  • Attends staff meetings and/or reads all meeting minutes
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within the designated time
  • Maintains employee/patient confidentiality
  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner
  • Participates in the department's performance improvement activities
  • Demonstrates the mission, ethics, and goals of the organization as well as the departmental Scope of Service
  • Communication with patients, guests, family, and staff is courteous, respectful, and helpful
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and accident-free environment
  • Follows Infection Control procedures at all times
  • Strictly adheres to standard precautions by adhering to the usage of personal protective equipment when handling blood or body fluids
  • Washes hands and other skin surfaces with soap and water thoroughly and often in an effort to control spreading of germs within the department and facility
  • Adheres to isolation procedures at all times as applicable
  • Demonstrates adequate knowledge of safety policies and procedures, the use of MSDS sheets, hazardous material procedures, and safety codes
  • Respond appropriately to any Codes while working any shift (Code Blue, Code Gray, Code Silver, Code Amber, Code Red, Code Orange, and Rapid Response Team)
  • Demonstrates adequate knowledge of security issues, i.e. personal protection, protection of personal and hospital property
  • Participates in quality initiatives as needed
  • Be familiar with and comply with the Mid-Valley Hospital & Clinic Personnel Handbook and Policies
  • Be familiar with the collective bargaining agreement (Union Contract) of the UFCW3000 and Mid-Valley Hospital
  • Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less)
  • Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more)
  • Peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point)
  • Depth perception (three-dimensional vision; ability to judge distances and spatial relationships)
  • Ability to hear alarms on equipment
  • Ability to hear patient call
  • Ability to hear instructions from staff

  • Previous clerical experience helpful but not required
