Job Summary
Register patients in the computerized admission/discharge/transfer system, process preadmissions, admissions, and discharges, and maintain bed availability lists. Print and review computer-generated files and reports on patient registration information. Interview patients, relatives, and family to obtain demographic and payment responsibility data, then obtain signatures and apply identity bands. Access HealthNet or PharmNet to determine or assign healthcare numbers and print medication profiles. Receive payments for non-resident and self-pay charges, issue receipts, and explain hospital policies regarding deposits and room differentials. Respond to patient and visitor requests for information and directions, and record patient valuables for safekeeping. Escort patients to nursing units or treatment areas as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Grade 12
- two years' recent, related experience
- equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- Ability to keyboard at 40 w.p.m.
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to deal with others effectively
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
- Ability to organize work
- Ability to operate related equipment
