Job Summary
Clerk I at the Pascagoula Public Library, a customer-facing role supporting patrons with locating materials, using computers, and assisting with programs and displays. Responsibilities include staffing the public service desk, answering inquiries by phone and in person, assisting with material selection and location, patron registration, circulation tasks, interlibrary loan, OPAC use, and supporting program/ display setup. The role involves maintaining collections (weeding, shelving), knowledge of adult and children’s literature, and stepping into a leadership role as needed (Person-in-Charge). Requires team collaboration, clear communication, organizational skills, tech-savviness, and physical ability to stand and lift up to 25 pounds; will participate in meetings and training. External candidates must complete required exams; position includes a six-month probationary period and potential variation in schedule.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One year paid full-time office or public contact work experience
- Computer/Internet skills
- Ability to place items in correct alphabetical order and numerical sequence
- Effective written & oral communication skills
- Must be physically capable of standing for long periods, ability to hear, bend, stoop, push, pull, squat, crouch, reach above shoulder level, and lift and move objects up to 25 pounds
- Valid driver’s license and transportation
