Job Summary
Sweep, scrub, vacuum, and polish hard surface floors using handheld, walk-behind, or automatic equipment while stripping and finishing surfaces as needed. Washrooms, stairwells, and elevator cabs require cleaning with ladders or scaffolding, alongside steam cleaning carpets and removing snow from outdoor areas. Transport garbage, machinery, and supplies; mix detergents according to specifications; and clean glass areas with extension equipment. Notify managers of major building repairs and maintain manual and electronic records. This role requires experience with floor maintenance machines, knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and WHMIS, and the ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Weekend, holiday, and shift work across multiple locations is mandatory.
Required Qualifications
- Experience in performing various cleaning, housekeeping and maintenance activities in an institutionalized environment
- Experience in using floor maintenance machines, cleaning equipment, materials and solutions
- Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the provisions that apply to this work including WHMIS
- Ability to lift, push and pull heavy items as well as climb ladders
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, clients and the general public
- Ability and willingness to work weekends, holidays and shifts as assigned as well as work in multiple locations
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, prepare and maintain manual and electronic records
- Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation
- Must meet security clearance requirements, where applicable
- Must have a valid Class G license (may be required)
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
