Job Summary
Keep designated production areas clean and clear of sawdust, wood chips, bark, and foreign objects. Operate a chain saw to cut scrap lumber and broken logs. Use hand tools to move debris into conveyors, bins, and onto a tractor. Operate a Bobcat and forklift to transport debris to conveyors or disposal sites. Pull strips off transfer chains into chippers and keep lumber straight on chains for the trimmer. Empty all garbage cans in and around the sawmill. Provide assistance where needed. This entry-level role supports the largest producer of redwood lumber in the world.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Must be able to read and interpret documents such as instructions, memos, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Knowledge of basic math
- Must be willing to work multiple shifts
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as mandated by company policy and OSHA Standards, which may include: Safety glasses or face shields, hearing protection, safety gloves, steel-toe safety footwear, hard hats and respiratory protection if necessary
Desired Qualifications
- One months related sawmill / planer experience and/or training preferred
