Job Summary
Classroom Assistant duties across elementary to secondary levels include assisting teachers in instructing and directing student activities; reinforcing taught knowledge and skills; administering and grading tests; recording grades; transporting students and supervising activities; assisting with reading exercises, computer programs, Braille, and computer lab maintenance; creating bulletin boards and preparing instructional materials; operating audio-visual equipment; data entry and record-keeping; communicating with parents and coordinating with staff to maintain a well-organized, safe classroom; requires at least 60 college hours and two years of experience with children in education, with physical ability to lift up to 30 pounds and strong organizational, interpersonal, and instructional-support skills.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 60 college hours from an accredited college or university
- Minimum of two years of consistent training and experience working with children in an education-oriented institution
- May require specialized training in conflict resolution and behavior modification
- Physical ability to operate a variety of machines and equipment including a computer and AV equipment; ability to lift up to 30 pounds
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively; ability to follow lesson plans and provide instructions to students
- Ability to supervise and support students, reinforce teacher instruction, and maintain classroom safety and order
- Ability to enroll students in computer labs and maintain records; data entry capability
- Strong organizational, technical, and interpersonal skills
- Experience with Braille instruction and liaison activities with parents
- Willingness to assist in transportation supervision and field trips
- Knowledge of basic computer operation and use of educational software
- Ability to work under supervision and collaboratively with district staff
- Commitment to maintaining a positive school environment
- Ability to interpret and implement district policies and procedures
