Job Summary
Implement positive behavior supports and enforce crisis plans while monitoring student safety in elementary and secondary classrooms. Collect data, maintain behavior logs, and document student progress for inclusive, resource, and self-contained settings. Execute applied behavior analysis strategies and assist with core curriculum instruction as directed by the classroom teacher. Provide intensive intervention using Handle with Care training for students with exceptional needs, including those exhibiting verbal or physical aggression. Assist with assistive technology, supervise study areas and field trips, and perform non-complex health procedures per Individual Health Plans. Maintain confidentiality of student information and attend required trainings. Work 170 days per year.
Required Qualifications
- Must have earned a high school diploma or its equivalent
- Pass the teacher/paraprofessional assessment test with a score of 450 or higher
- Associate degree or higher
- 48 hours of college with six hours of Math and nine hours of English
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of students and parents
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students
- Ability to assist in lifting students and positioning students
- Must be able to physically implement Handle with Care techniques
