Job Summary
Support teaching staff in elementary or secondary classrooms by providing instructional support to students with disabilities individually and in groups. Implement instructional plans and accommodations from Individual Education Programs while monitoring student safety and adjusting strategies based on needs. Assist with routine supervision of study areas, cafeterias, and field trips, and perform non-complex health procedures and student positioning. Reinforce positive behavior and assist students with computer applications and assistive technology while maintaining confidentiality of student records. Work collaboratively with teachers to execute Behavior Plans and ensure accurate, current knowledge is conveyed during core curriculum delivery.
Required Qualifications
- Must have earned a high school diploma or its equivalent
- Pass the teacher/paraprofessional assessment test with a score of 450 or higher
- Associate degree or higher
- 48 hours of college with six hours of Math and nine hours of English
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of students and parents
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students
- Must assist in lifting students and positioning students
- Handle with Care training required
- Attends necessary non-complex health training as prescribed by board policy and state law
- Performs non-complex health procedures, implements Individual Health Plans as applicable
