Job Summary
Apply coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect interior or exterior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures of buildings. Smooth surfaces, remove old paint, and fill cracks with caulk or putty before painting. Erect scaffolding or set up ladders for tasks above ground level, while washing surfaces with mildew remover and spreading dropcloths to protect furnishings. Use brushes, spray guns, or rollers to simulate wood grain, marble, or brick effects. Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor. Works in outside weather conditions and occasionally in high, precarious places. Requires a neat, well-groomed appearance and moderate to heavy lifting.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- two to four years job-related experience
- equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
- Ability to write simple correspondence
- Ability to present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees
- Ability to use paint brushes, rollers, spray guns, ladders, broadknives, and caulking guns
- Ability to regularly stand
- Ability to use hands to handle or feel objects or tools
- Ability to frequently reach with hands and arms
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Ability to occasionally walk and climb or balance
- Ability to frequently lift or move moderate to heavy weight
- Color vision
- Depth perception
- Ability to frequently work in outside weather conditions
- Ability to be frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles
- Ability to occasionally work near moving mechanical parts
