Class A Maintenance Repair Technician

Job Summary
Diagnose and repair major complex problems on bus systems, including engine, transmission, electrical, and mechanical defects. Perform upgrades, modifications, and preventative maintenance while documenting all work in RTA Software and utilizing CMMS for trend analysis. Conduct thorough inspections of all bus components, from undercarriages to interior systems, and support B and C class technicians with operational theory and diagnostic assistance. Work with OEMs on vehicle campaigns and handle road calls using various hand and power tools. Maintain a safe environment by adhering to OSHA standards, EPA regulations, and DOT safety provisions while lifting up to 100 pounds and working in outdoor conditions.
Required Qualifications
- Five (5) years recent progressive heavy equipment maintenance experience
- Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License and DOT physical
- Must have a complete understanding of the design, vehicle electronics, overhaul knowledge for transmissions and heavy-duty engines, as well as other bus components
- Must be able to work with diagnostic equipment
- Must be able to work amid constant interruptions and be able to prioritize and deal with time pressures
- Must have good communication skills to be able to give directions, moderate contact with others inside the organization; works mainly with Maintenance staff and with Bus Operators. Work occasionally with Training, Safety, Dispatch and Purchasing.Moderate contact with others outside the organization; works with OEMs and vendors occasionally
- Must have an in-depth understanding of regulations effecting mechanics and maintenance operations
- Must be autonomous and be self directed
- Must have basic math abilities in order to analyze and track maintenance information
- Must have knowledge of the warranty process
- Must have the ability to prioritize and be detail oriented
- Must be able to perform physical activities including working on top of buses and lifting up to seventy-five (75) pounds
- Basic 2-way radio skills required
- Basic tools required
- Must have clean driving record and be able to obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver's License, Class B
- Attend work on a regular and dependable basis
- Ability to successfully pass state and/or federal required Background Checks
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the job
- Must be thoroughly familiar with all safety provisions associated with vehicle maintenance
- Full understanding of OSHA standards and provisions
- Understands and conforms to State EPA regulations regarding disposal of toxic waste substances
- Must be eligible to work in the US without restrictions
Desired Qualifications
- ASE Master Certification preferred
- Two (2) years technical degree or equivalent experience preferred
- Additional training from mechanical/technical schools, courses or seminars is desirable
