Job Summary
The Class A Heavy Truck Mechanic performs journeyperson-level maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of the Tevis truck fleet with minimal supervision, providing technical guidance to other mechanics and ensuring repairs meet manufacturer and safety standards. Responsibilities include diagnosing complex mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using computerized diagnostic equipment; performing repairs and overhauls on engines, transmissions, differentials, braking systems (air and hydraulic), suspension, and steering; conducting routine maintenance and safety inspections; recording work with CMMS; coordinating parts orders; and potentially supervising apprentice technicians. Requires extensive experience in commercial vehicle maintenance, CDL with Hazmat/Tanker endorsements (or willingness to obtain), strong problem-solving skills, ability to work independently or in a team, and willingness to travel within the service area. Required Qualifications
- At least 8-10 years of experience in commercial vehicle maintenance
- CDL driver’s license with Hazmat and Tanker endorsements – or willingness to acquire
- Possess sufficient hand tools capable of performing the responsibilities in this job description
- Regular and dependable attendance
- Willingness to participate in a rotating on-call schedule
- Willingness to travel as necessary within the service area
- Comply with random DOT drug and/or alcohol testing
- Physical ability to lift/push/pull 80 lbs.
- Willingness/ability to work in non-climate-controlled conditions
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems using diagnostic equipment
