Job Summary

Read fabrication blueprints and vessel drawings to fit and assemble heat exchangers, pressure vessels, tanks, shells, heads, nozzles, flanges, and channels. Perform layout, measuring, leveling, squaring, aligning, and marking of materials, then position components for welding and perform tack welding when qualified. Use precision tools to verify dimensions, angles, and tolerances while inspecting completed fit-ups for compliance with drawings and quality standards. Coordinate with welders, supervisors, and quality-control personnel, following all OSHA and site safety procedures. Work overtime, weekends, or night shifts as production needs require.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 10 years of industrial fitting experience
  • Direct experience fitting heat exchangers or pressure vessels
  • Advanced ability to read fabrication blueprints and technical drawings
  • Experience with vessel layout, component alignment, and dimensional verification
  • Knowledge of welding preparation, fit-up tolerances, and fabrication processes
  • Ability to use tape measures, levels, squares, calipers, micrometers, and other precision tools
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, grinders, cutting tools, and rigging equipment
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Ability to stand, bend, climb, lift, and perform physically demanding work throughout the shift
  • Reliable transportation to Channelview
  • Ability to pass required background and drug screenings
  • Must be able to work overtime, weekends, or night shift when production needs require

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience fitting both heat exchangers and pressure vessels
  • Welding or tack-welding experience
  • Previous refinery, petrochemical, vessel-shop, or heavy-fabrication experience
  • NCCER, OSHA, rigging, forklift, or related industrial certifications
  • Experience working from ASME-related fabrication drawings and specifications
