Job Summary
Manage a portfolio of liability claims from initiation through to resolution, interpreting policy coverage and legislative frameworks to assess indemnity and liability. Establish, monitor, and adjust claim reserves while negotiating settlements and recovery opportunities with clients, legal providers, and mediators. Collaborate with internal Claims, Legal, and Underwriting teams to ensure documentation complies with regulatory and governance requirements. Contribute to process improvements and identify trends within claims portfolios to support product development. This role supports VMIA's purpose of building a confident and resilient Victoria within the Risk, Insurance, and Claims Solutions Division. Full-time, 2-year maximum term contract with hybrid work arrangements.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years' experience in end-to-end claims management or a related field
- Experience managing liability claims, including combined liability, employment practices liability, class actions, and direct claimant matters
- Background in commercial insurance, legal practice, employment law, or financial services
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills
- Experience using Claims Management systems and working within governance frameworks
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively in high-pressure environments
- Understanding of public sector environments and risk management principles
- Associate/Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance
- Relevant qualifications in Business, Commerce, Finance, Law, or related disciplines
- Must meet Fit and Proper Person requirements under APRA guidelines
- Candidates from interstate must be willing to relocate to Victoria
