Job Summary
Handle all phases of assigned claims handling from initial contact to forwarding payment to the insured. Secure required information from contacts, transcribe it for management review, and conduct field investigations for equitable settlements. Obtain data from witnesses, police, or doctors, and verify medical bills to settle claims quickly. Determine coverage, request payments within specified authority, and issue claims when appropriate while maintaining accurate records. Follow up via telephone or letter to ensure all documentation is submitted. Maintain credibility with upset claimants and comply with established service standards. Requires one to three years of property and casualty claims experience, an AIC or AEI source, and a college degree.
Required Qualifications
- Excellent communications skills (verbal and written)
- Ability to handle in a professional manner claimants who may be upset or impatient
- Ability to maintain credibility with clients
- Ability to develop a strong, ongoing business relationship with assigned clients
- Ability to follow a task through to a timely completion
- Ability to operate a personal computer
- Ability to operate a calculator
- Ability to operate a typewriter
- Ability to operate a fax
- Ability to operate a copy machine
- Ability to operate a shredder
- Ability to operate a telephone
- Minimum of one to three years in handling property and casualty claims
- Completed at least one AIC or AEI source
- Considerable work experience (alternative to AIC/AEI)
- College degree
- Equivalent work experience (alternative to College degree)
