Job Summary
Claims Associate roles within Steamship Mutual’s European Syndicate involve handling P&I and FDD claims for Members across multiple European countries, promoting the Club–Member relationship, processing large claims per operating procedures, maintaining electronic files, contributing to procedures and systems, producing Club publications, and engaging with brokers, service providers and lawyers. The role requires a qualified lawyer (preferably English-qualified) or a degree in Maritime Law with several years of relevant claims-handling experience, strong communication and relationship-building skills, organisational discipline, and the ability to support underwriting objectives. Proficiency in an additional European language is advantageous.
Required Qualifications
- Qualified lawyer (preferably English-qualified) with experience equivalent to approximately 2 years’ PQE, or degree‐educated (LLB or LLM in Maritime Law or equivalent) with at least 3 years’ relevant claims‐handling or industry experience
- Previous experience handling shipping litigation and dispute resolution
- Excellent communication skills, including negotiating, presenting, and reporting
- Ability to build and maintain effective business relationships at all levels, both internally and externally
- Highly organised, motivated, and enthusiastic with an excellent attention to detail
- Proficiency in a European language is considered an advantage but not essential
- Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work collaboratively as part of a team
