Job Summary
Claim Specialist - Michigan PIP at The Auto Club Group. Remote-work eligible with occasional travel. Responsible for complex PIP claims handling in Michigan, including reviewing claims, contacting insureds and other parties, setting expectations, initiating documentation in the claims system, conducting coverage analysis, identifying policyholder benefits, creating sub-claims when needed, investigating facts to determine payment and recoveries, reviewing damages, applying state law, evaluating financial loss, approving payments, and coordinating with Underwriting, Recovery Units, or Claims Special Investigation Unit. Requires formal training program completion or equivalent knowledge, eligibility for a state Adjuster’s license within 90 days where required, valid driver's license for in-person duties, and minimum years of experience in claims negotiation, evidence evaluation, subrogation, and related areas. Strong negotiation, communication, and analytical skills with familiarity in Michigan no-fault, subrogation, and complex claims handling are essential. Remote-work policy allows day-to-day remote operations with possible travel and in-person meetings as determined by leadership.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Complete ACG Claim Representative Training Program or demonstrate equivalent knowledge or experience
- In states where an Adjuster’s license is required, the candidate must be eligible to acquire a State Adjuster’s license within 90 days of hire and maintain as specified for appropriate states.
- A valid driver's license is required if the primary responsibilities of the role involve conducting in-person inspections or frequent in-person meetings with members.
- Experience: Three years of experience or equivalent training in the following: Negotiation of claim settlements; Securing and evaluating evidence; Preparing manual and electronic estimates; Subrogation claims; Resolving coverage questions; Taking statements; Establishing clear evaluation and resolution plans for claims
- Knowledge and Skills: Advance knowledge of Essential Insurance Act (Michigan), Fair Trade Practices Act as it relates to claims, Subrogation procedures and processes, Intercompany arbitration; Handling simple litigation; Advance knowledge of Negligence Law, No-Fault Law, medical terminology and human anatomy; MCCA and attorney represented claims
- Ability: Handle claims to the line; Claim Handling Standards; Follow and apply ACG Claim policies, procedures and guidelines; Work within assigned ACG Claim systems; Perform basic claim file review and investigations; Demonstrate effective communication skills; Demonstrate customer service skills; Analyze and solve problems; Prioritize claim related functions; Manage time, organize and plan workload; Research, analyze, and interpret subrogation laws in various states
- Preferred Qualifications: Education: Associate degree in Business Administration, Insurance or related field; Completion of Insurance Institute of America's programs or CPCU coursework (if applicable)
