Job Summary
Paraeducator will work with students individually and in groups in regular classroom and special services settings under the supervision of certificated staff. Duties include providing clerical assistance, crosswalk and recess supervision, and performing other job-related tasks. Responsibilities include direct support to special education students in need of remediation accommodations, assisting teachers with clerical or instructional tasks, supervising students to maintain a safe learning environment, completing required paperwork with accuracy, and assisting with timecard records. The role requires ability to use basic computer programs, meet physical demands, pass background checks and trainings, and effectively communicate with students, parents, and staff. Requires high school diploma or equivalent and AA degree or equivalent college credits; familiarity with Microsoft Office and school district policies is preferred.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- AA degree OR 72 quarter college credits OR 48 semester college credits OR a passing score on the ETS test
- Unofficial transcript proving AA degree or equivalent to application
- Official transcripts of all levels of education required within 30 days of hire
- Must pass a basic skills test
- Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within 30 days of hire and yearly thereafter
- Must pass a background check including employee paid fingerprinting
- Must be able to use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read/respond to email
- Must demonstrate strong command of English for verbal and written communication with students, parents, staff, etc.
- Evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety
- Evidence of ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with students, parents, staff, and management
- Evidence of professional conduct and teamwork
- First-aid certification if required
- Evidence of strong academic background in reading, writing, and math; testing may be used to meet minimum qualifications
