Job Summary
Paraeducator in an Autism Classroom supporting students with significant needs under the direction of the teacher. Responsibilities include carrying out educational instruction, data collection and documentation to monitor progress, assisting with toileting/diapering and food preparation as needed, supervising students, and collaborating with the special education teacher, other paraeducators, and specialists. Must follow Kennewick School District policies, maintain communication with parents and staff, and perform clerical/instructional tasks such as making copies and creating materials. Requires high school diploma or equivalent and AA degree or credits, ability to meet physical demands, and completion of required trainings (Safe Schools, CPI). Preferred Bachelor’s degree and experience with autism, behavior intervention strategies, and data management. Prolonged standing/walking, lifting up to 50 lbs (up to 100 lbs with assistance), and ability to work in varied temperatures are noted in the job description.
Required Qualifications
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must have an AA degree OR 72 quarter college credits OR 48 semester college credits OR a passing score on the ETS test
- Must attach unofficial transcript proving AA or equivalent to application
- Must be able to perform essential functions with/without accommodation
- Must pass a basic skills test
- Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within 30 days of hire and yearly thereafter
- Must pass a background check including fingerprinting
- CPI training must be obtained at next available opportunity
- Must uphold policies and procedures
- Must communicate effectively in English
- Must be able to use basic computer programs to maintain records and read email
- Must be first-aid certified or willing to acquire
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Ability to supervise students during transitions and elopement
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and up to 100 lbs with assistance
- Experience with Microsoft Office software
- Patience and warmth with students
- Ability to work independently and in teams
