Job Summary
Paraeducator provides reading instruction to students in a small group intervention room and classroom under direct supervision of certificated staff, administering reading assessments, adapting materials to instructional needs, and maintaining records. Responsibilities include supervising recess and lunch, carrying out prescribed reading intervention programs, assisting with health-related tasks such as catheterization and tube feeding, preparing instructional materials, and supporting the reading specialist and classroom teacher. Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and an AA degree or 72 quarter/48 semester credits (transcript required); background checks and Safe Schools training are required. Position is at Chinook Middle School in Kennewick, WA, 6 hours per day, 180 days per year; salary $22.61-$26.02 per hour with up to $0.60/hour extra based on college credits, open 06/17/2026 to 06/25/2026 or until filled.
Required Qualifications
- Must have High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must have an AA degree OR 72 quarter college credits OR 48 semester college credits OR a passing score on the ETS test
- Must attach unofficial transcript proving AA or equivalent to application
- Must pass a background check, which includes employee paid fingerprinting
- Must pass Safe Schools Web Based Training within 30 days of hire and yearly thereafter
- Must be able to assist with catheterization and tube feeding of student
- Must be able to use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email
- Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff and administration
- Must be willing to become first-aid certified if required
