Job Summary
Provide direct support to special education students in the Tier II Autism program; assist with physical/health needs, clerical or instructional tasks, data collection, and supervision to promote a safe, orderly learning climate; implement prescribed behavioral intervention strategies; maintain documentation of student IEP goals and progress; collaborate with teachers, specialists, and other paraeducators; hours are 6 per day, 180 days per year at Westgate Elementary School in Kennewick, WA; requires high school diploma or equivalent, AA degree or college credits, CPR/first aid readiness, CPI training, background check, Safe Schools, and the ability to work as part of a team within Kennewick School District policies.
Required Qualifications
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must have an AA degree OR 72 quarter college credits OR 48 semester college credits OR a passing score on the ETS test.
- Must attach unofficial transcript proving AA degree or equivalent to application. Official transcripts of all levels of education, including high school, required within 30 days of hire.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Must be able to meet the Physical Demands of the position.
- Must pass a basic skills test.
- Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within 30 days of hire and yearly thereafter.
- Must pass a background check, which includes employee paid fingerprinting.
- CPI training must be obtained at the next available opportunity. Level I and II required.

Desired Qualifications
- Experience working with students with autism or in special education settings
- Ability to assist with instructional tasks and data collection
- CPI training or willingness to obtain CPI training
- First aid certification or willingness to obtain
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to follow district policies and maintain documentation
- Ability to supervise students during recess and transitions
- Background check and fingerprinting as part of employment process
