Job Summary
Work with professional Structural or Civil Engineers to apply engineering principles in the design and construction of oil sands facilities. Utilize hands-on aptitude to solve daily problems, complete design calculations and drawings, and create and analyze structural finite element models. Support documentation quality control through discipline reviews and SQUAD checks while assisting with work planning and reviewing contractor designs. This student role is based in Calgary or Fort McMurray, Alberta, with shifts ranging from 4 to 5 days on. Candidates must be currently enrolled in a bachelor's program in Civil Engineering and hold a valid Class 5 driver's license.
Required Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in Civil Engineering
- Possess a valid Class 5 Alberta driver's license or equivalent out of province license with a reasonably clean driver's abstract
- All candidates applying to Canadian Natural must have legal authorization to work in Canada with no restrictions
- Calgary-based: 5 days on, 2 days off, 8 hours per day (Monday - Friday)
- Oil Sands-based: 4 days on, 3 days off, 10 hours per day (Monday - Thursday)
- Term start & length: January 8 months or May 12 months
- Safety sensitive position: Yes
- Depending on business needs, the work location may change. This would require the successful candidate to work at one of our Oil Sands sites north of Fort McMurray, AB
