Job Summary
Civil/Structural Engineer responsible for developing and stamping structural engineering packages for construction projects in the utilities, large commercial and industrial sectors. Role is hands-on, collaborating with clients, sales, and managers to answer technical questions and propose solutions. Key duties include analysis and design of concrete and steel structures (including substation structures such as A-frame, bus structures, pipe racks, cable tray supports, piles/foundations, grading, oil containment), E-House design and installation, supporting RFPs and bid submissions with engineering hours estimates and take-offs, preparing fabrication/shop drawings, leading a multidisciplinary design team, coordinating procurement and permitting, performing calculations, mentoring junior engineers, reviewing team outputs, providing on-site engineering support, and participating in client meetings while traveling to project sites as needed.
Required Qualifications
- 5-10 years of experience in civil/structural engineering
- Professional Engineer status in Alberta or another province
- Working knowledge of structural design software: S-Frame, AutoCAD; review software such as Navisworks; MicroStation is a plus
- Familiarity with CSA, NBC, and provincial building codes
- Industrial Canadian experience; experience in T&D is a plus
- Ability to travel to client sites and project locations as needed
- Strong project management and communication skills
- Experience supporting RFPs and bid submissions; cost estimating and material take-offs
- Lead and mentor junior engineers and designers
- Review and approve team members' work product
