Job Summary
Civil Structural Designer at Dashiell performs routine design tasks for high voltage electrical infrastructure within a project team, producing new drawings from prior project examples, substation layouts and elevation drawings from one-line electrical drawings, conduit and grounding drawings, and a Substation Bill of Materials. The role involves overseeing drafters and junior designers, researching specifications, calculating ground grid requirements to IEEE standards, determining structure heights and weights, and traveling for project assignments. Requires knowledge of civil/structural fundamentals, AutoCAD 2010+ (and MicroStation V8/V8i preferred), and familiarity with relevant codes (NESC, IEEE, ANSI, AISC, ACI). Physically, the position includes indoor work with potential overnight travel and extended hours as needed; overtime may be required.
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of five years experience in structural substation design, or related experience
- An Associate's degree in drafting & design is preferred
- Experience with AutoCAD 2010 or newer is required
- Experience with Microstation V8 & V8i is preferred
- Experience in structural drafting of steel structures and concrete foundations
- Knowledge of the major components of a substation is preferred
- Basic knowledge of civil / structural codes and standards (AISC, ACI) is a plus
- Strong knowledge of civil/structural codes and standards (NESC, and applicable IEEE, ANSI, AISC, and ACI) is a plus
- Mathematics, including algebra and basic trigonometry
- Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills to effectively convey information to team members, management, and clients when necessary
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
- Must be able to travel overnight for trainings and/or meetings as required (10%)
- Must be able to endure prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer for a minimum of 8 hours a day
- Must be at least 18 years of age and legally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis without visa sponsorship
