Civil Site Engineer (Forensic Engineering)

Job Summary

Conduct field investigations and analyze failures in civil-site built environments, evaluating deficiencies in grading, drainage, stormwater management, and utility systems. Prepare, permit, and implement construction plans for DOT, water districts, and municipalities while interpreting codes and regulations. Deliver unbiased reports documenting failure causes and remediation, supported by expert testimony in legal proceedings. Maintain client relations through professional presentations and oral/written communication. Travel 50% locally and 20% overnight, lift 50 lbs, and work at various heights. Requires a Bachelor's in Civil Engineering, five years of experience, and P.E. registration.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Minimum of five (5) years of civil/site development experience
  • P. E. (Professional Engineer) registration
  • strong writing skills
  • Ability to travel on a variable schedule, including 50% of the time locally and 20% of the time overnight
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to climb ladders and inspect roofs
  • Ability to carry equipment to and from job sites
  • Ability to work at various heights on structures
  • Ability to maneuver in and around buildings and in confined spaces
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
  • Ability to effectively communicate with clients and colleagues
  • Ability to drive in all conditions
  • Ability to fly on airplanes
  • Ability to visually inspect job sites and relevant artifacts
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment as required by the work site
  • Ability to learn a new industry and obtain required certifications
  • Ability to handle occasional long workdays and non-traditional hours

  • Proficient with design of site-visibility at intersections, vehicular use areas, parking lots, pedestrian and vehicular ingress/egress ways
  • Proficient with applicability of MUTCD and ADA standards
  • Proficient with preparation, permitting, and construction implementation of civil/site construction plans related to DOT, water management districts, and various municipalities
  • Proficient with municipal zoning and variance hearings
  • Proficient with code, regulations, and standards interpretation and application
  • Proficient with Stormwater management quantity and quality design, above and below ground
  • Proficient with Floodplain delineation
  • Proficient with Stormwater collection and conveyance systems
  • Proficient with Sediment and erosion control design and inspections
  • Proficient with Hydrology and hydraulics design
  • Proficient with Site grading design
  • Proficient with Development processes during design and construction
  • Proficient with Close out procedures of land development projects
  • Proficient with Failure modes of infrastructure systems
