Job Summary
Review project documents, specifications, and geotechnical reports to determine scope, risks, and bid strategy. Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for sitework, grading, utilities, storm drainage, and erosion control. Solicit and compare vendor and subcontractor pricing to prepare competitive cost estimates and bid proposals. Identify scope gaps, constructability concerns, and value engineering opportunities while maintaining organized estimating files. Support operations teams through project award and construction phase changes by reviewing drawing revisions and assisting with change orders. Communicate scope, sequencing, and schedule assumptions to internal teams and leadership. Collaborate with preconstruction, operations, and vendors to deliver accurate estimates and support company goals.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 4 years of civil estimating experience, or 5+ years of relevant civil construction project management or field experience
- Experience with sitework, earthwork, grading, utilities, storm drainage, erosion control, and general civil construction scopes
- Strong ability to read and interpret civil plans, specifications, bid documents, and project drawings
- Experience performing quantity takeoffs and preparing detailed estimates
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple bids, deadlines, and priorities at the same time
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with vendors, subcontractors, project teams, and leadership
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Ability to reliably commute or willingness to relocate before starting work
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods
- Manual dexterity to operate a computer and other office equipment
- Ability to lift and carry up to 15 pounds
- Vision and hearing acuity to perform job duties effectively
- Maintain a valid Driver's License
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with estimating and takeoff software preferred
- Two-year degree preferred
- Four-year degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field is a plus
- Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree
