Civil Engineering Department Manager

Job Summary

Oversee design development, contract document administration, and project scheduling for commercial, residential, and public facility developments. Lead a dedicated engineering team through staff supervision, mentoring, and strategic growth while managing client relationships and business development initiatives. Direct quality control of construction documents, including site layouts and utility plans, and coordinate permitting submittals with authorities having jurisdiction. Drive project proposals, budget management, and monthly invoicing to ensure designs meet time and cost goals. Requires a Professional Engineer (PE) license, eight years of design and project management experience, and strong financial management skills. This role is 100% in-office in the Charlotte, NC area with no sponsorship available.

Required Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE)
  • At least 8yrs of Design and Project Management experience
  • No more than 3 jobs in the last 10yrs
  • Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering
  • Professional Engineer Registration required (North Carolina and South Carolina preferred)
  • A minimum of 8 years of professional engineering design and project management experience
  • Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment with tight deadlines and ability to adjust to project priorities and demands of multiple clients
  • A strong background in the land development industry, site planning, grading design and construction document preparation
  • Ability to coordinate tasks and projects with other ESP department managers, engineers, surveyors and planners
  • Prior experience mentoring project managers and engineers-in-training / design staff
  • Candidate must be able to pass a drug screen, background check, and have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the companys driving (MVR) policy
  • 100% in-office role

Desired Qualifications

  • AutoCAD Civil 3D and design software experience is preferred this position must understand the design software, but the position is not to perform AutoCAD design
  • Strong business development skills
  • Excellent financial management skills
  • Experience working with authorities having jurisdiction codes, standards and technical specifications
  • Proficiency with developing and designing construction details
  • Experience with a formalized QA/QC program
  • Strong collaborator and experience presenting in front of boards, commissions or councils is a plus
