Civil Engineering Co-op - Spring 2027

Job Summary
Support field construction quality control activities by assessing and evaluating project materials including soils, concrete, asphalt, and other construction materials. Assist engineering staff in performing field evaluations and quality control testing while working closely with contractors to ensure adherence to project specifications. Gain direct exposure to consulting engineering practices and technical specialists in geotechnical engineering, environmental remediation, pavement design, and materials evaluation. This full-time co-op assignment runs from mid-May through late November 2027, requiring a valid driver's license and the ability to lift up to 60 pounds. Applicants must have completed a prior co-op with SME and reside in Michigan, Ohio, or Indiana.
Required Qualifications
- Previous completion of a Co-op with SME
- Good driving record
- Ability to comfortably lift and carry equipment and samples weighing up to approximately 50 - 60 pounds
- Ability to work outside, at construction project sites, in various weather conditions
- Ability to sit, stand, stoop and/or kneel for long periods of time
- Ability to walk and work on uneven ground/terrain
- Valid driver's license
- Experience driving in the U.S.
