Job Summary
Develop and evaluate designs for electric transmission systems, creating specifications, drawings, and standards for overhead, underground, or civil/structural projects. Review industry codes and standards to ensure compliance with safety and operational requirements while participating in research and development initiatives. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver prudent engineering solutions and perform budget estimates, cost calculations, and time accounting for work plans. Conduct field work during emergency storm conditions, including nights and weekends, and travel to industry meetings and vendor inspections.
Required Qualifications
- BS Degree in Civil Engineering
- EIT Certificate and the ability to obtain Professional Licensure in NYS
- Two or more years of experience in structural analysis, reinforced concrete, structural steel and soil mechanics
- Experience with marine structures
- Knowledge of AISC, ACI, ASCE, NESC, NYSDOT, NYS & local building codes
- Familiarity and experience in document management systems (e.g.TeamCenter), 3D structural analysis and design software (i.e., Staad III) and AutoCAD
- Knowledge of ANSI, ASTM, National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), National Electrical Code (NEC) and other related guidelines related to electric transmission system engineering, design and operation (latest codes)
- Familiarity with Occupational Safety Health Act (OSHA) guidelines
- Experience with working with other engineering disciplines
- Experience with using Microsoft Office computer programs such as Word, Excel, Access and Outlook
- A valid US driver's license with a safe and satisfactory driving record
- Compliance with the Department of Energy's regulation 10 CFR 810
- A citizen or national of the USA
- A lawful permanent resident of the United States (Non-Conditional Permanent I-551 / Green Card / Permanent Resident Card holder)
- A citizen, national, or permanent resident of a 'Generally Authorized' destination on the attached list and not also a citizen, national, permanent resident of any country not listed
- A 'Protected Individual' under the Immigration and Naturalization Act (8 U.S.C 1324b(a)(3))
- Ability to respond to emergency storm and other conditions requires field work during nights and weekend
- Must be available for travel to represent the department and company at industry meetings and vendor inspections
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of engineering design and analysis of underground electric transmission systems including 23-345 KV pipe type cable and solid dielectric cable systems
- Knowledge of AutoCAD and TeamCenter
- Knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), National Electrical Code (NEC) and other related guidelines related to electric transmission system engineering, design and operation
- Familiarity with Occupational Safety Health Act (OSHA) guidelines
- Demonstrated verbal, written, interpersonal communication skills and computer skills
