Job Summary
Civil Engineer I duties include developing plans for surface transportation projects in accordance with engineering standards and state/federal construction policy; preparing designs, specifications, or estimates for transportation facilities; planning modifications to streets, highways, or freeways to improve traffic flow; producing moderately complex studies, construction documents, maps, basic reports, and other supporting documentation to support civil design; preparing quantities, cost estimates, and project technical specifications; interpreting data and preparing drawings for highways; utilizing CAD and Microsoft Office to produce high-quality design documents, exhibits, computations and reports; coordinating with Senior Engineers and Project Managers, attending internal meetings, and documenting action items; reviewing shop drawings for conformance with contract plans; assisting with defining scope of work and man-hour requirements; assisting with proposal production and marketing initiatives; ensuring project/task schedules and budgets are met; coordinating with design technicians for timely deliverables; preparing documents for regulatory agencies to obtain permits; maintaining professional licensure through training; occasional site visits to report and document findings to Project Managers.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
- 4 years of experience in civil engineering or related
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure
- Expertise with AutoCAD, MicroStation, Synchro, VISSIM, HCS, Microsoft Office Power
- Expertise with OpenRoads Designer and ConceptStation software
- Familiarity with design sheets for Highway and Drainage
- Preparation of inspection reports and documentation
- Design back-checked MOT sheets
- Design information for contract documents
- Basic knowledge preparing engineering drawings and specifications
